The DIY Pedicure

Posted by Rachael Phillips on 9th Jun 2014

If you’re going to be wearing some seriously sexy sandals this summer then you need to make sure that your toe nails look the best they possibly can.

Summer is when your feet are most exposed, but if you don’t have the time or money to go to your local salon, just follow our tips to ensure that you’ve a gorgeous pedicure that will do your feed proud.

Your toolkit…

  • nail varnish remover
  • soap
  • aromotheraphy oil
  • nail clippers
  • cuticle stick
  • pummice stone
  • foot scrub
  • base coat polish
  • a gorgeous top coat

Step One: You need to make sure that you have clean feet before starting your pedi so be sure to remove nail varnish you’re already sporting.

Step Two: Now you need to soak your feet. You can of course fill a bowl of warm water but I recommend running yourself a nice hot bath and having a good soak. After all, you are supposed to be pampering yourself!

Step Three: Apply some oil to your cuticles and return to the soak for a couple more minutes.

Step Four: Trim and file the nail into a square shape.

Step Five: Using the pointed end of the cuticle stick clean any dirt from under the nail. The with the flat end of the stick, very gently push the cuticles back and scrape away any dead skin.

Step Six: Using a good foot scrub and a pumice stone to get rid of any dead skin.

Step Seven: Next step to dry and moisturise your feet. Make sure that you dry them throughly!

Step Eight: Apply your base coat. This is essential if you’re using a dark or vibrant colour like red. Otherwise you’ll end up having stained nails.

Step Nine: Now it is time to apply your finishing coat. Apply two layers of your chosen varnish.

And you’re done! These tips can also be applied to your finger nails but just a word of warning make sure that you do your pedicure first as you don’t want to risk ruining your good work.
